Inside Diversity: Personal Styling, Real People, Real Confidence
At our Jamaica Plain shop, personal styling is about collaboration, self-expression, and discovering what already exists.
What does it look like when you walk into a secondhand shop and find more than just an outfit? At Diversity Consignment in Boston's Jamaica Plain neighborhood, our personal styling sessions bring together one-of-a-kind clothing, a thoughtful conversation, and a fresh perspective on getting dressed.

A styling session starts with you
Our two-hour personal styling sessions begin with a roughly 20–30 minute consultation. We talk about the pieces you reach for most, what you want to wear more often, your lifestyle, and anything that feels challenging about your wardrobe. From there, you and a Diversity stylist explore the racks together, try different combinations, and build looks that make sense for your life.
This isn't about someone deciding what you should wear. It's about making space to experiment, finding unexpected combinations, and leaving with ideas you can use long after the session ends. Whether you're navigating a life transition, refreshing your everyday wardrobe, exploring your aesthetic, or simply feeling stuck, there is no single right way to show up.
What clients have been saying
One of the best parts of these sessions is hearing what happens after the fitting room. Recent clients have shared feedback with our styling team:
“I absolutely love the new pieces and I can't wait to wear them.”
“It was so much fun working with you. I love all my purchases! I will definitely be back!”
“I'm really happy with what we found, and I hope to come back again in the future when my looks need a refresh.”
These messages capture what we're working toward: enjoyable, collaborative appointments that lead to pieces people feel excited to wear.
Why secondhand makes it different
Shopping secondhand turns styling into a creative process. Instead of starting from a uniform seasonal collection, we work with a changing assortment of vintage finds, contemporary labels, statement pieces, reliable basics, and designer discoveries. A stylist can help you connect items across decades, silhouettes, and aesthetics in a way that feels distinctly your own.
At Diversity, our gender-inclusive approach means you're encouraged to explore what interests you, not what a clothing label says you ought to choose. We believe great style should leave room for expression, curiosity, and surprise.
What to know before you book
Our standard personal styling session is approximately two hours, with a $50 booking fee applied toward purchases made that day. If you decide not to purchase anything, that fee covers the session itself. Come in wearing comfortable basics such as a white T-shirt with leggings or jeans to make trying on different looks easier.
Whether you're preparing for a new job, updating your style, or just curious about what you might discover, we'd love to explore it with you.
