Before the racks, there was an idea.
Diversity Consignment began with a simple belief: secondhand fashion could feel more personal, more creative, and more representative of the people actually wearing it. The store grew around the idea that clothing should be explored without rigid boundaries, and that resale could be both practical and expressive.

The Jamaica Plain storefront became the physical home for that idea. More than a retail address, it became the place where consignment, styling, photography, local creative work, community programming, and experimentation could live together.
This page serves as the opening record of the Diversity Archive. As photographs, press, early materials, and dated milestones are added, this record can continue to document how the store and its programs developed.
What carried forward
The principles established early on continue throughout the archive: inclusive fashion, circular resale, personal style, local creative participation, and a willingness to rethink what a neighborhood consignment store can provide.
